Built for Robert Bruce Barbour, a wealthy chemical manufacturer, in 1938 to lease to the Northerners who wintered here, the Barbour Apartments, as they were originally called, emulated the Spanish-inspired architecture of Barbour's celebrated home: Casa Feliz. Rogers built Casa Feliz in 1932 as Barbour's primary residence, and it still stands today as a public museum.
